For the 19th year in a row, Thanks giving 2024 will feature a triple-header of NFL games. As is customary, the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys will host the first games on the national holiday, with one other contest in prime time.
For the second year in a row, the Lions and Cowboys will play divisional games. The Detroit Lions will host the Chicago Bears in their first meeting of the season. Later in the day, Dallas will play the New York Giants in their second and final divisional matchup. The Cowboys won their first encounter, also on a Thursday, 20-15.
Rounding out the action is an interconference clash between the Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins. It will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2022 and the second straight on a national holiday – that 2022 matchup was on Christmas Day.
Here’s what to know about the three Thanks giving games this year:

The Dolphins most recently trounced the Patriots 34-15, keeping quarterback Tua Tagovailoa undefeated against the division rival. He finished 29-for-40 for 317 yards and four passing touchdowns. This will be the Dolphins’ first Thanksgiving game since 20-19.
NFL Games News Today
Matt Eberflus of the Bears is “confident” that he will coach the 49ers in Week 14.
In 2024, Matt Eberflus will still be the head coach of the Chicago Bears.
Following a disastrous conclusion to Thanksgiving’s 23–20 defeat to the Lions, Eberflus assured reporters on Friday that everything is going according to plan and that he is getting ready for the game against San Francisco in Week 14.
“I’m just going to be working on finishing up this game, doing a good job of evaluating that, our after-action report like we always do,” he continued. “I’ll then be working my way into San Francisco. Once more, we will have those discussions, and I am certain that I will be working on getting to San Francisco and preparing for that game.”

NFL playoff picture, clinching scenarios: Lions could secure place with Thanks giving win
Every week during the 2024 NFL regular season, USA TODAY Sports will provide timely updates to the league’s ever-changing playoff picture, typically beginning after Sunday afternoon’s late games and continuing for the remainder of the week.
What just happened? What exactly does this mean? What are the key elements (and, maybe, tiebreakers) to consider as each conference’s seven-team bracket begins to take shape? All will be discussed and evaluated until the postseason field is finalized on Sunday night, Jan. 5.
The AFC playoff picture
Kansas City Chiefs (10-1) are the AFC West leaders. It wasn’t nice – yet again – but they outlasted Carolina to extend their lead over Buffalo to a half game, though the Bills’ head-to-head tiebreaker advantage still means Kansas City can’t afford to fall behind right now, especially because the champs will be back in play on Black Friday.
The Chiefs have a few options for securing a spot this weekend, all of which require a win. They’d also need a defeat by the Dolphins, Broncos, or Chargers, as well as a tie with Denver. The remaining schedule consists of games against the Raiders, Chargers, Browns, Texans, Steelers, and Broncos.
Buffalo Bills (9-2) are the AFC East leaders. Coming off a break, they’ll face a battered San Francisco squad at home in search of their sixth consecutive victory. A sixth consecutive division title is nearly a given (a win combined with a Miami loss in Week 13), and Pittsburgh’s loss only strengthened the Bills’ position near the top of the conference. And, with the potentially crucial tiebreaker versus the Chiefs in hand, the Bills may soon pave their way to Super Bowl 59 through Western New York.
The remaining schedule includes games against the 49ers, Rams, Lions, Patriots, Jets, and Patriots.
